Movie review: GI Joe: Retaliation

Imagine you were in Blackshot or Sudden Attack where you were to fight in a battle using sniper, knife or grenades. For those readers who have no ideas what am I talking about, they are actually a free-to-play multiplayer first-person shooter online games. These games are the best to describe GI Joe: Retaliation.

GI Joe: Retaliation is about the G.I. Joes not only fighting their enemy (Cobra), they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their existence.

Fans of military-type games or the action figures will find this film enjoyable. However if you are not a fan of these games, you may find yourself a little confused during the whole cinema experience. Plot was quite messy, especially the scene where Storm Shadow was explaining the whole incident of Hard Master. Some scenes were shown too quickly as if it was like "a person who was going to be late for an Oscars" and the only memorable scene was when the film was coming to the end.

I have to admit that the GI Joes was indeed cool, especially when Storm Shadow briefly helped the team. In my opinion, Channing Tatum was not into his role as Duke (probably because the actor knew he was going to die anyway). Fighting scenes were dominant and spectacular, which was the reason why the film was still doing well, even though the plot was quite messy. CGI effects looked a little cartoonish and not convincing.

After watching this film, I believed that it can actually be improved because it provided a lot more better than its predecessor, GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra (2009). Overall, neither was the film good nor was it bad, it just needs more boost.

Ratings: 6.5/10
